ANDRÉA de NERCIAT. Contes polissons (Saucy tales). Work deco - Lot 363
ANDRÉA de NERCIAT. Contes polissons (Saucy tales). Work decorated with six beautiful illustrations, Paris, 1891 [Duringe]. Reprinted in conformity with the original edition of 1799. In-8 of vi, 88 pages, half chocolate brown basane with corners à la Bradel, spine ribbed and decorated, red edges, spine and plates isolated (period binding). Illustrated with 6 hors-texte in an oval frame. Edition printed by Charles Renaudie. On verso of the faux-title: "15 copies of this work have been printed on Japan paper, numbered and signed by the publisher, with two suites of illustrations in black and in colour and 12 original watercolours in the margins; 285 copies on Hollande paper numbered and bearing the publisher's signature. The 6 illustrations are in an oval frame. "According to Apollinaire: "This edition would have been printed at 300 copies. It was printed in Paris, rue de Seine, [this is certainly the printing house of Charles Renaudie, located at number 56] for a bookseller named Dur...e [Duringe]. It is well executed. It was published, I believe, at 25 francs, but as it did not sell easily, this price was raised in the catalogue published by the publisher in 1900 to 9 francs... Copies with engravings are not often found. "Guillaume Apollinaire, L'Œuvre du chevalier Andréa de Nerciat, Bibliothèque des Curieux, 1912. Dutel 171.
