CURIOSA. Hans BELLMER & Unica ZÜRN. Dark Spring. Translated from the German by Ruth Henry and Robert Valançay. Paris, Pierre Belfond, 1970. In-folio of 46 pages, Bradel style boards, white coated paper with black stitching, black glossy paper cover, with a large red cotton thread decoration on the first cover, drawn between a set of perforations, the whole framed by 4 pieces of the same white coated paper with stitching, reminiscent of the decoration on the second cover, smooth spine, long title with pink metallic œser, black paper lining and end-papers, smooth head, natural edges, case of the same white stitched paper. Original engraved frontispiece by Hans Bellmer with a suite of this engraving printed on Japon nacré. First French edition of "Dunkler Frühling" by Unica Zürn, illustrated by Hans Bellmer. Limited edition of 150 copies, plus 20 hors-commerce on Arches vellum. This French translation by Ruth Henry and Robert Valançay was published a few weeks after Zürn's suicide on October 19, 1970 (the press release is dated December 15, 1970). The original German edition of "Dunkler Frühling" was published in 1967.
