Vincent CORPET - Marquis de SADE. 602 drawings based on the - Lot 430
Vincent CORPET - Marquis de SADE. 602 drawings based on the 602 passions told by the 4 historians of D.A.F. de Sade's 120 Days of Sodom, Le Massacre des innocents, 1995. According to Philippe Sollers, in Le Monde of March 24, 1995: "Vincent Corpet, with a gesture whose exceptional energy must be measured, wanted us to hear a certain silence of Sade. Sade, in fact, is a silent torrent. The meticulous accumulation of torments, the destruction of bodies, the multiplication of speeches, postures and acts, the enormous inverted liturgy that constitutes this monument of words, lead, one might say, to an empty cave. [Corpet has grasped this insatiable appetite. He has solved the impossibility of showing Sade by making a series of cuts that rigorously correspond to what is being told. It is a book of engravings, a book of hours giving the idea of an endless visible variation. How does he do it? He proceeds by scratching a black circle, the light appears little by little, mass rather than line, the inside of the paper speaks, it is the implacable mechanics of Jacques Callot to the measure of a reality which strips the lie of a humanity claiming to be good. Circles, says Corpet, "allow everything". Where the square closes, the circle opens, allows the outside to exist. Sade's hyperpornography (heads, limbs, sexes, traps, twists, mute screams) is targeted, not reduced. The Sadian cathedral wanted its rose window: here it is, black and white, classical, unexpected, solid cruelty free of indestructible desire."
