Edmond FAUCHER (1884-1963), called RICARDO - Robert DOISNEAU - Lot 432
Edmond FAUCHER (1884-1963), called RICARDO - Robert DOISNEAU (1912-1994), photographer. Vintage silver print, 24 x 18 cm. In the tradition of Lacassagne's investigation in 1881, Doisneau's photographic reportage illustrating Giraud and Delarue's detailed study, constitutes an eloquent testimony on the Parisian underworld of the post-war period. "The masterpiece was Richardo, obliterated from the skull to the toes, a standing Jouy canvas". Nicknamed the "living Gobelins" by Albert Londres who met him in the prison of Biribi in 1924, Edmond Faucher [1884-1963], known as Richardo, exhibited his body to earn his living. Giraud and Doisneau met him at the bistro des Cloches de Notre-Dame where he proved difficult to photograph. The photographer preferred to take the pictures at home, under the stunned eyes of his family. Richardo ended his life in prison after stabbing an intruder. Robert Doisneau reports that on his identity card, under "particular signs" was written "nothing"... https://www.museeniepce.com
