STEREOSCOPIC DAGUERREOTYPE. Eugène DURIEU (1800-1874), attributed to. Study of a female nude, circa 1850. Stereoscopic daguerreotype, produced on 1/3 or 2/6 plate, 8.4 x 17 cm. Painter and daguerreotypist Eugène Durieu is famous for his nude shots, which served as models for his friend Eugène Delacroix. The painter of "La Liberté guidant le peuple" directed his nude sessions and commissioned a series of 26 poses from him in 1854. Durieu was one of the first members of the Société héliographique, founded in 1851. Between 1854 and 1855, he played a key role in the creation of the Société française de photographie, for as a high-ranking civil servant, 399 of the Légion d'Honneur, he had a perfect grasp of the administrative machinery.
