P.-J. OF BÉRANGER. The Erotic Songs. Decorated with fourteen - Lot 81
P.-J. OF BÉRANGER. The Erotic Songs. Decorated with fourteen engraved and coloured plates. At the expense of an amateur, 1923 [1926]. A volume in-4 tellière (220 x 160 mm) of 2 ff. n. ch. (false title and title), 164 pages, cover with flaps in pink paper printed in black and red. Illustrated with 16 original colour etchings, including a frontispiece and title vignette by Alex Virot. Print run limited to 260 copies. One of the 250 copies (n° 84) on white vellum by Montgolfier. This pupil of Antoine Bourdelle did not restrict himself to the world of art. Spotted very early by the sports world, Alexandre Virot, known as Alex Virot (1890-1957), after publishing a few drawings or caricatures for L'Intransigeant and Le Miroir des Sports, became one of the first sports radio reporters. On his motorcycles, he followed the Tour de France from 1930 to 1957, the year he killed himself at the age of 67 in the laces of the Pyrenees. (Pia 211, Hell 1061, Altar 1193)
