Leo PUTZ (1869-1940). Erotica, circa 1900. Case titled on th - Lot 113
Leo PUTZ (1869-1940). Erotica, circa 1900. Case titled on the first plate, large in-folio in dark red imitation, 39 x 30 cm, containing 10 original drawings; 6 in coloured pencil and 4 in pencil, various sizes, mostly 20 x 30 cm. In 1899 Putz co-founded the "Scholle" group of artists, which included Walter Georgi, Fritz and Erich Erler and Adolf Münzer. The "Scholle" claimed a profound individualism and that "everyone cultivates their own clod, a small piece of land that is obviously not on any map". Between 1900 and 1909, Leo Putz worked intensively with the weekly magazine Jugend, which published reproductions of his numerous works and made him known to a broad German-speaking public. Putz himself identifies 1901 as the beginning of his Impressionist period.
