Milivoj Uzelac (1897-1977) was born in Mostar, today in Croatia. Uzelac was initiated in Prague in 1915, in the studio of the painter Jan Preisler, while attending classes at the Academy. In 1921, he spent the first part of the year in Paris, in the Montparnasse district, and two years later he settled permanently in France. During his Prague-Zagreb years - until 1923 - Uzelac's work reflected the spirit of war-torn Austria-Hungary. From 1918 onwards, eroticism takes an important place in his work. Although he spent most of his life in France, Uzelac continued to maintain links with the Croatian art scene, exhibiting in Zagreb and other places in the former Yugoslavia until the end of his life. In 2002, the Croatian post office issued a stamp illustrated by his work "Girl in a boat".
