Heinz von PECKHAMMER. The two friends, circa 1930. Period silver print, 17.5 x 23 cm. Stamp on the back. Heinz von Perckhammer, (1895-1965) travelled to China as a sailor in the Austro-Hungarian Navy during the First World War and remained in the country during the 1920s. He photographed women in brothels in Macau. The nudes are the antithesis of these women's environment. After his return to Germany, he published some of his studies in the magazine Voila (No.76, 1932). He also published "Edle nacktheit in China" in 1928. He also photographed many other nudes for the portfolio "Das Deutsche Aktwerk", which was published in several versions by Bruno Schultz Verlag from 1938 to 1940. He also produced portraits and advertising images.
