[Johannès GROS - Paul-Émile BÉCAT] SPADDY. Colette ou les am - Lot 333
[Johannès GROS - Paul-Émile BÉCAT] SPADDY. Colette ou les amusements de bon ton, unpublished novel. In St Cloud, at the Temple of Kythera [Maurice Duflou, 1936]. Original edition. In-8 cavalier of 152 pages. 12 heliogravures by Paul-Émile Bécat. Limited edition of 350 copies, all on pure vellum from the Marais. The edition date of this original is given by Pia. According to Sarane Alexandrian: "The narrator of Colette ou les Amusements de bon ton exposes the actions of his mistress, a woman of the world who confesses: "I am very libertine... I like fantasy and diversity." Colette, a nymphomaniac and exhibitionist, engages in the worst sexual misconduct in public, sometimes in the presence of her husband, a resigned and impassive witness: "At 20, she has all the experiences of a long life as a lupanar. And yet there is no face more attractive and fresher than hers, no body more exquisite, younger and more virginal." Colette leads her lover on a frenetic quest for pleasure which sometimes takes her to bawdy houses, the Chabanais or the Sphinx, sometimes makes her solicit partners like the transvestite Gaby. Always associating vice with luxury, enjoying imagining ravishing socialites behaving dirty, Johannès Gros is the singer of polluted beauty that comes out intact from its defilements.
