CURIOSA. Nicolas CHORIER]. New translation of the Mursius, k - Lot 271
CURIOSA. Nicolas CHORIER]. New translation of the Mursius, known under the name of Aloïsia or of the Academy of the ladies; revised, corrected and increased by almost half, by the restitution of all that had been truncated in all the editions which appeared until now; and as delicately rendered as it had been badly in all the preceding ones: purged of the obscene terms with which it swarmed, without however having enervated in nothing the force of the thoughts. All decorated with a quantity of pretty figures in intaglio on new designs, divided into two parts, volume one, [volume two]. In Cythera, in the printing house of voluptuousness, 1749. 2 parts in one vol in-8 of 2 ff., XX, 191 pages and XII, 312 pages, spotted calf, smooth spine decorated, blue spotted edges, traces of spotting on three leaves (contemporary binding to be restored, protective case). Edition of this translation attributed to Jean Terrasson, published in 1749 by Arles de Montigny. It was printed in Auxerre by Fournier and is decorated with 11 engravings, including one in the frontispiece with the letter. Volume I includes, in XX pages, a notice from the editor, a notice to the bookbinder, a letter from M. l'abbé de T, translator, to Madame l'abbesse, a notice to the reader, an errata sheet and a table of contents; volume II includes XII pages and a table of contents. Lemonnyer III-393 gives it, wrongly, for an edition of J. Barbou with 46 figures. P.C. 31.i.27, Merten 14 and 15 Éros Invaincu 15, Bibliothèque Gérard Nordmann avril n° 89, Dutel A-10.
