[Pierre LOUŸS - Marcel STOBBAERTS] P. L. Pibrac. Expanded ed - Lot 314
[Pierre LOUŸS - Marcel STOBBAERTS] P. L. Pibrac. Expanded edition with twenty watercolours. Paris [circa 1930]. In-4 of 127 pp. and 1 ff. with cream paper cover printed in dark blue. Illustrated with 20 off-text stencils in colours by Marcel Stobbaerts. Limited edition of 250 copies. The copies are numbered at the compositor. According to Sarane Alexandrian (Histoire de la littérature érotique, Seghers, 1989, p. 296): "Pybrac was written after Pierre Louÿs' quarrel with Senator Bérenger, president of the Ligue contre la licence des rues, who had a scene from La Femme et le Pantin (an adaptation of his novel) banned from the Théâtre Antoine in December 1910 because the dancer Régina Badet was showing her naked breasts. This father of modesty even wanted to sue the great actor Gémier, director of this theatre. Pierre Louÿs mocked the senator Berenger in his Pybrac, a series of blames that a puritan addresses against sexual aberrations. Here the scholar refers to the Quatrains du seigneur de Pibrac, one hundred and thirty-seven moralizing quatrains by a magistrate of Toulouse, Raoul du Faur, which were taught to schoolchildren in the old days. Each of Louÿs's quatrains begins with "I do not like to see" and describes an abomination, the whole forming a catalogue of impurities." Dutel 2195.
