Pierre Olivier Joseph Coomans (1816-1889) The Lion in a Carpet January 1864 Watercolour on paper Titled on the reverse, monogrammed and dated, and transferred word for word on the frame. 19.5 x 35.5 cm Tears and missing parts Probably a study for an antiquisite work. The work is to be compared with drawings of fauvists made by the artist in the 1860's as well as with the paintings of the series of the lives of Pompeii where Coomans reuses this type of study.
