Base of an oil lamp bronze, brown patina the three sides decorated with a grotesque head in foliage, a volute in acanthus leaf at each corner each angle surmounted by a dragon head with its mouth open 6 x 10 x 10 cm Italy, late 16th / early 17th century, after Severo Calzetta da Ravenna (1496-after 1538) (the feet cut, the lid missing, wear to the patina) A lamp of the same model, resting on three clawed feet and the lid surmounted by a seated satyr, is in the Frick Collection, New York (inv. 16.2.20; see Th e Frick Collection. An illustrated catalog, Volume III, Italian Sculpture, New York, 1970, pp. 141-144).
