Cleopatra - Lot 54
Cleopatra bronze, brown patina; on a posterior base in white marble and yellow marble Northern Italy, around 1600, after Baccio Bandinelli (1493-1560) Height. (total) : 42 cm ; height. (base) : 11,5 cm This composition is derived from a bronze by Baccio Bandinelli (1488- 1560) from the Medici collections and now in the Museo Nazionale in the Museo Nazionale del Bargello, Florence (inv. 354 ; height. 32.2 cm). Other examples, whose fonts are attributed to the workshop of to the workshop of Severo Calzetta da Ravenna (1496-after 1538), are in the in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford (inv. WA1888.CDEF.B412; ht. 26.8 cm), the Museo Nazionale di Capodimonte, Naples, and the Fine Museum, San Francisco (inv. 61.35; for three examples supporting a supporting a candelabra). A last bronze of the same model, from the Abbott Guggenheim Collection, also attributed to Severo's attributed to the workshop of Severo da Ravenna, was sold by Sotheby's New York, January 27, 2011 (lot 404; height 31 cm).
