Heinrich LOSSOW (1840-1897). Hide-and-seek, nymph faun, circ - Lot 70
Heinrich LOSSOW (1840-1897). Hide-and-seek, nymph faun, circa 1870. 2 oil on panel, 30,5 x 24 cm, framed, forming a system painting consisting of 2 works, one of which, signed lower left, is hidden by the other. A label of the Hungarian Museum of Fine Arts appears on the back of each of the boards. Heinrich Lossow was a Bavarian painter, son of the sculptor Arnold Hermann Lossow and brother of the animal painter Friedrich Lossow. Like the latter, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich in Piloty's studio and trained on various trips. As a genre painter, he drew much of his inspiration from the Rococo style. In parallel to his career as a painter, Heinrich Lossow developed his art in illustration. Like Achille Devéria, who directed the print department of the Bibliothèque nationale and was assistant curator of the Egyptian department of the Louvre, Lossow was curator of the painting gallery in Schleissheim, near Munich. At the end of his life, pornographers command respect... Provenance: Tony Fekete Collection.
