Pierre TURIN (1891-1968). Nude with turban, circa 1925. Bro - Lot 44
Pierre TURIN (1891-1968). Nude with turban, circa 1925. Bronze bas-relief. 10 x 3 cm. Signed lower right. Pierre Turin studied with Frédéric de Vernon, Henri-Auguste-Jules Patey and Jules Coutan at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. In 1920, he was awarded the first Grand Prix de Rome in medal engraving and fine stone for a figure of Peace advancing with sword in hand, then a gold medal at the 1925 specialized exhibition. In 1928, competing for the Monnaie de Paris, he was chosen to create a new type of coin featuring Marianne wearing the Phrygian bonnet girded with an olive wreath on the obverse and ears of wheat on the reverse: the "Turin type". This type of engraving was used for ten-franc coins until 1949 and twenty-franc coins until 1939, and was then used in the French colonies.
