ACTION. MONTMARTRE. Action de la société des eaux de Montmar - Lot 336
ACTION. MONTMARTRE. Action de la société des eaux de Montmartre, 1834. Illustrated engraving, 16 x 26.5 cm. By 1834, the mound's springs had dried up and Montmartre was running out of water. In 1835, M. Véron, mayor of the commune, had a fountain installed in Place Jean-Baptiste-Clément, to be supplied by a hydraulic pump installed in Saint-Ouen. The water drawn from the Seine was relayed by a fire pump placed halfway up the passage Cottin. A 125,000-liter reservoir was supplied in this way until 1860. Water from the Ourcq and Dhuys rivers took over.
