Ruytchi SOUZOUKI (1904-1985). Cabaret, 1956. 16-page notebook composed by the artist, yellow cover, 24 x 32 cm. Containing 72 colored pencil or pen drawings, most with captions, from notebooks, 13 x 10 cm approx., 4 handwritten sheets and a press clipping. "Ruytchi Souzouki encountered the milieu of Japanese artists living in Paris in the Montparnasse of the Roaring Twenties. In particular, he made friends with Tsugouharu Foujita, who painted a portrait of Souzouki. [...] In 1922, he held his first solo exhibition at Galerie Manuel Frères in Paris, with a catalog prefaced by art critic André Salmon. From 1923 onwards, he exhibited at the Salons d'Automne, the Salons des indépendants and the Salons des Tuileries. [...] He frequented the painters of the École de Paris and became friends with Jules Pascin and Max Ernst. [...] In 1954, he exhibited his Surrealist collages at the Galerie Paul Petrides and the Galerie Romanet. [...] Eric Losfeld published a collection of his drawings dedicated to Brigitte Bardot (1960, preface by Jacques Sternberg). [...] His work, recovered by his janitor, was auctioned off at Drouot in March 1986. The unsold items went to landfill. His work was gradually rediscovered in the 2000s." wikipedia
