[Louis PERCEAU - Gerda WEGENER (1885-1940)] Alexandre de VÉRINEAU. Twelve lascivious sonnets to accompany the suite of watercolors entitled Les Délassements d'Éros. Érotopolis, à l'enseigne du Faune, 1925 [Maurice Duflou]. ln-4 sheets of 37 pages, red half-basane à la Bradel, smooth spine, gilt head, converture preserved. First edition of these poems by Louis Perceau, intended to accompany Gerda Wegener's suite of 12 stencils entitled Les Délassements d'Éros. "Faced with the difficulty of selling these illustrations alone, the publisher called on Louis Perceau in 1925, who composed Douze Sonnets Lascifs to accompany these plates. They are all signed by a small black wolf at the bottom of the page. [...] Gerda Maria Frederikke Wegener, née Gottlieb, (1885-1940) was descended from a long line of Danish pastors. She met her future husband Einar Wegener (1886-1931) at an art school in Copenhagen. The couple moved to Paris in 1912. They lived a luxurious bohemian life, and their paintings were much appreciated. Einar enjoyed cross-dressing and became the first man to undergo sex-change surgery. He becomes Lily Elbe. The marriage is annulled. He dies of medical complications shortly after his fifth operation, which should have enabled him to give birth (?!)." Dutel. Provenance: bookplate M. L.
