Harold EDGERTON (1903-1990). Milk Drop Coronet, 1957. Silver print, 25.5 x 20 cm. Signed in ink on recto lower right, and countersigned in blue ink on verso. "American photographer specializing in strobe photography. He is famous for his photograph of the perfect crown formed by the fall of a drop of milk, taken in a millionth of a second. Roland Barthes, in La Chambre claire, cites this photograph as an example of surprise achieved through "prowess"."
