ORIGINAL ADULT MANGA BOARDS. Chiyoji TOMO (Susumu TSUTSUMI, - Lot 198
ORIGINAL ADULT MANGA BOARDS. Chiyoji TOMO (Susumu TSUTSUMI, born November 1960). Misse 130: Forbidden door, 2009. Complete chapter: 18 plates, ink, collage, screen and gouache, 36 x 26 cm. Artist's stamp in red ink on the first page. A comic book artist since the 1980s, Tsutsumi alternates pseudonyms, signing Chiyoji for erotic stories aimed at a male audience and Kaoru Ai for erotic works aimed at a female audience, Susumu, Tomoji, etc... The founder of La Cúpula publishing house, Josep Maria Berenguer, discovered him following a trip to Japan in the 1980s. Berenguer bought several of his books (probably Endless Love, published in 1985 by Keisei Shuppan), then negotiated the rights to reproduce his comics. Chiyoji subsequently worked directly for La Cúpula, doubtless also responding to the publisher's more specific orders, and adapting to the European comics market, notably by showing the hair and sexes of his protagonists very explicitly. Chiyoji is a Japanese mangaka specializing in hentai. He is known to European readers for his Miss 130 series, published in the erotic comics monthly Kiss comix for some ten years. He has been incorrectly credited as Chiyoji Tomo in Europe. He himself doesn't know where the "Tomo" comes from. Belonging to the Gekiga movement, he is one of the pillars of Japan's erotica industry. He chooses several names according to the editorial line. Active since the 1980s, his style has been plagiarized many times. He was one of the first mangaka to be published in Europe: France, Italy, Spain and the UK.
