Bibliography: Pierre Dubreuil, Éditions Avant et Après, Paris, 1991. Pierre Dubreuil spent his entire youth in Morbihan. He moved to the Montparnasse district of Paris in 1907. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts for a while, then enrolled at the Académie Matisse, where he remained until its dissolution in the spring of 1912. He then frequented various workshops and academies in Montparnasse. He made friends with Gromaire, Pascin and Per Krohg, and became a member of the Montparnos. He was mobilized in 1912 and served until July 1919. In 1913, he married Italian-born Elvire Ventri. The 20s were a prolific period. He painted Paris, Brittany and portraits. He exhibited at the Indépendants, Salon d'Automne, Galerie Georges Petit and Berthe Weill, and took part in several group shows, notably in Japan. In 1935, he became a member of the "Peintres-Graveurs français" (French painters-engravers) and devoted himself more and more to engraving, but continued to exhibit his paintings at the Salon des Tuileries, at Druet's, and elsewhere.
