La Lumière. Revue de la photographie. 1855 Fifth year (compl - Lot 52
La Lumière. Revue de la photographie. 1855 Fifth year (complete). 1856 - Sixth year: January 5 to November 8. In-folio, black half-chagrin, wear from use. La Lumière, a weekly periodical devoted to photography and arguably the world's first periodical on the subject. Created in 1851 by the Société héliographique at the time of the advent of the calotype, La Lumière is an essential source for understanding the aesthetic issues that accompanied the invention and promotion of photography. Written by its main supporters at a time when photography had yet to achieve the status of a work of art, and conceived as a veritable militant magazine, it bears witness to the development of aesthetic thinking around photography.
